First and foremost – I am a wine lover. I like everything about wine. There is something about being humbled by nature that keeps everyone in this business grounded and sincere. I really like how wine elevates conversation, how it makes food taste better and how it makes life just a little more civilized.

At SR20, we know that Canadians are making world class wines and we’re on a mission to “make introductions” to all those who don’t know this fact. We also love imported wines and have a full range of wines from every major wine producing region.

Wine is best sold directly from the winery by knowledgable people who provide great  advice and values. We’ve assembled a network of wine lovers who help the people they know find wines that suit them best. They will also encourage their customers to try wines outside of their normal choices, join us for special events and tastings and get to wine country for the ultimate experiences.

What’s with the name? I like Sideroads. When I have a little extra time, I like to take the more scenic route – it’s always better! We intend to see wonderful things along this journey, associate ourselves with great people and make sure we take deep breaths and pauses to enjoy what life throws our way!

Selling wine directly to customers… on-line …is a fairly new idea. Books, sweaters, and ipods…yes. Wine? This is new. But receiving wine at your doorstep from amazing local producers; drinking wines that someone else helps you choose; accessing products that are hard to get…yes please!

The challenge of helping to build this idea into a business intrigued me after 25 years in packaged goods, sports and entertainment…wine is my next frontier. Do what you love right?

Our toughest job is getting people to believe that they can actually buy wine this way; direct from the supplier and receive it within days. Once they get it…they love it.As a partner/owner in Equity Wine Group, and working specifically on the Sideroad Twenty project, I have become passionate about supporting local and international producers and creating a new and emerging way to buy wine.  I consult with our digital team to help create the BEST on-line wine experience around, support our sales team of part-time passionate wine lovers, engage people at tasting events and discover unique partnerships that help us build our business further.

Great wine – on-line….It’s a journey that I am loving!

Sonja Smith

I am excited to join the Sideroad Twenty team as the Marketing and Logistics Manager. I enjoy assisting brokers and wine lovers in selecting wines for any occasion and being involved with the day to day operations. I am eager to learn more about the wine industry and expand ways for people to enjoy wine at home and through events.

While living and attending school in the Niagara region I developed an interest for wine.  I am a graduate from Niagara College of both the Culinary Management and the Bachelor of Applied Hospitality Operations Management programs. I look forward to the opportunities with Sideroad Twenty Cellars while using and further developing my skills
